At the indicated time, we'll meet near the Jerónimos Monastery. After a brief introduction, we'll step inside this Manueline-style monastery. Ready to see this UNESCO World Heritage Site and learn all about the Belém region's crucial role in the history of Portugal?
We'll admire the monastery's stunning cloisters, considered one of the finest examples of Manueline architecture, and learn about its historical and symbolic significance for Portuguese society during the golden age of the 15th and 16th centuries. Depending on the route, we may also explore other important spaces within the monastery, such as the tomb of Fernando Pessoa, which was moved here in the 20th century.
After visiting the Jerónimos Monastery, we'll take a stroll through Belém's other important landmarks, like the Monument of the Discoveries, built in 1960 to mark 500 years since the death of Prince Henry the Navigator, one of the leading figures of the Age of Discovery. This monument features other historic personalities who helped expand Portuguese influence across the globe.
Depending on the option you chose, our journey will continue as we take a short 15-minute walk to arrive at the iconic Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that we'll admire from the outside. This striking Manueline-style structure once served as a defensive tower guarding Lisbon's harbor.
We'll say our goodbyes and conclude our tour after between 2 and 4 hours in total.
